Introducing Espolla

Municipality of Alt Empordà, which extends from the southern slope of the Albera mountain range, between Puig dels Pastors (1173m) and Pico de Sallafort (989m) to the pediment belt at the beginning of the plain Empordanese It includes a large part of the upper valley of the Orlina and, in the southern part, the head of the Merdanç.

The mountainous sector is full of forests (cork oaks, oaks, beeches, heather, steppe). The crops, in the sector of the plain, are dry land: vines, olive trees and some fodder. The agricultural cooperative is one of the oldest in Catalonia and its wines and oils are famous throughout the region.

The town, with about four hundred inhabitants, is located at an altitude of 124 meters and has an area of 43.55 km2.
